If you’re shopping for crossover SUVs, you have numerous options. The 2026 Mazda CX-50 and 2026 Subaru Forester are both quality choices. Let’s go through the features of both to find out how they stack up.
The CX-50 comes in seven available trim levels, ranging from the economical 2.5 S Select to the well-equipped 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. The Forester comes in six trims, from the entry-level Base to the well-appointed Touring model. We’ll find most of what these vehicles have to offer a few steps up from the base model, so let’s take a look at the standard features of the 2026 Mazda CX-50 2.5 S Premium vs. the 2026 Subaru Forester Premium.
Vehicle Details
The Forester packs a 2.5-liter Subaru BOXER® 4-cylinder engine under the hood for 176 lb-ft torque @ 3,700 rpm and a maximum towing capacity of 1,500 lbs. For the drivetrain, we have symmetrical AWD with intelligent drive modes and CVT (continuously variable transmission). With an estimated 26 MPG city / 33 MPG highway, the Forester is a sensible choice when it comes to fuel efficiency.
On the whole, both the CX-50 and the Forester are more than serviceable performers in most circumstances.
The Subaru Forester also doesn’t kid around in terms of safety. The Forester comes with a driver assist package that includes pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control.
We have no major complaints about the Forester’s interior. With 27.5 cubic feet of cargo space and seating for five, the cabin certainly isn’t cramped. HD radio, Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integrations, 6-speaker audio system, and more make for an adequate infotainment setup.
The 2026 Mazda CX-50 exhibits a level of refinement and performance beyond what its price tag suggests. The 2026 Subaru Forester is also very well equipped. You can’t go wrong with either, but in our opinion, the Mazda CX-50 can’t be beat.
