In the world of hybrid crossover SUVs, you have a nearly endless number of choices. The 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid and 2026 Toyota RAV4 are both quality options. Let’s review the pluses and minuses of both to determine how they stack up.
The CX-50 Hybrid comes in three available trims, ranging from the wallet-friendly Hybrid Preferred to the pricier Hybrid Premium Plus. The RAV4 comes in six trim levels, from the budget-conscious LE to the high-end Limited model. We’ll find most of what these vehicles have to offer slightly above the base model, so let’s review the standard features of the 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Premium vs. the 2026 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium.
Vehicle Details
The RAV4 has a hybrid 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine under the hood for 170 lb-ft max torque and a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. For the drivetrain, we have front-wheel drive (AWD available at an increased price) and an eCVT. With an estimated 47 MPG city / 40 MPG highway, the RAV4 is a respectable option when it comes to fuel efficiency.
In short, both the CX-50 and the RAV4 are solid performers in most circumstances.
The Toyota RAV4 is no slouch either when considering safety. The RAV4 comes with a driver assist package that includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, and lane departure alert with steering assist.
There is also plenty to like about the RAV4’s interior. With 37.8 cubic feet of cargo space and seating for five, space shouldn’t be an issue. Wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility, 6-speaker audio system, and more comprise a respectable infotainment setup.
The 2026 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid combines sporty performance with comfort in a stylish package. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 is a bit more vanilla, prioritizing fuel efficiency. Both are excellent, but in our opinion, the Mazda CX-50 Hybrid takes the win.
